“Angela Hernandez aka AngMir is a mixed media artist who was born & raised in the Pilsen neighborhood in Chicago. Growing up she immediately fell in love with her cultura Mexicana & watching & helping her grandma & mother create whether it be for example knitting, crochet or making crafts. It was enriching family time & so fulfilling to make something out of nothing. Something about visiting outdoor markets & festivals like the garra & Fiesta Del Sol was so inviting, so accepting, so normal.
“After many years working for Corporate America AngMir is pursuing her dream & love for creating art. She now works from home as a mixed media artist with the ability to spend more time with & care for her growing family which is always a bonus. Her influences are family, faith, culture, local artists & Frida Kahlo.
“AngMirs’ work range from wearable art, photography, handmade dollies & shadow boxes. She incorporates bright bold colors, clay & recyclable items into her pieces as a way to make it more lively/give it new life. She sells at art events, neighborhood festivals, local shops and has an online shop. This year her wearable art & collectibles have been accepted in Tienda Tzintzuntzan located in the National Museum of Mexican Art which was a dream come true. She is also part of the female artists collective Mujeres Mutantes.”
“To be able to share my art & bring joy to others is such a rewarding feeling & motivates me to continue to do what I love. ” – AngMir
